Shanghai Tour 2014

May 2014 saw six women, including myself,
Explore Shanghai together on the first Textile Lovers Travel Tour. The women were from remote rural Victoria,
Melbourne and Tasmania. Two friends, a mother and daughter and solo traveller came along. The ages ranged from mid 40's to mid 60's. All had a wonderful time and loved Shanghai.

The weather in early May was great averaging low 20's, but got to mid 20's on a couple of days. For the first few days we all stayed together, seeing Shanghai as a group. After a few days, women became more confident to go out and about in pairs, on their own, or as a small group.

Shanghai has a lot to see and do, but the city is quite compact, and this trip primarily focuses on old Shanghai which is even smaller. In the first few days the group was quite busy,
ordering clothes at the two big fabric markets, rummaging through Dongtai antique market, exploring the "Bund" on an all day walking tour, visiting an old canal market, enjoying multiple hour long massages and exploring the area close to our hotel in Peoples Square. After that, the itinerary slowed down, and people chose to return to places we had been before, explore museums, shopping districts, or areas of Shanghai such as 'French Concession'.

For the first few days, we caught taxis together to destinations,
but after getting a bit more familiar with Shanghai, underground
railway was the transport of choice. Shanghai boasts a first class
underground railway system that is a fantastic way to get around. It
is very easy to use, efficient, safe and trains depart every few
minutes. Most people on the tour mastered its use within our first
day of using it as transport. Several people preferred it to taxi's and
happily used it on their own.

One travellers' words summed
it up beautifully;

"What a fabulous time we had

with Sharryn on her very first
Textile Lovers Travel, Shanghai
Fell in love with Shanghai as
we followed Sharryn to markets
and tailors, the Bund,
the beautiful Peace hotel
for morning tea.... So many other memories....... Thank you Sharryn!"
